February as a
member of the Working Group for The Place Near and Far Gallery &
Workshop in Kennetcook and as current President of both the Hants
County Arts Council and the East Hants Fine Arts Association.
A busy day of networking and brainstorming focused on the strengths and
challenges East Hants has in building a vibrant tourism industry. Many
ideas and proposals were examined and emphasis was placed on planning for
cooperation across the affected communities and businesses.
Representatives from many
tourism businesses & organizations break into working
groups.
Event organizers from the
East Hants Office of Economic & Business Development
oversee the workshop.
Sandra acted as facilitator
for her working group & presented their brainstorming
results to the crowd.
Sandra also donated a
painting of a typical Nova Scotia seaside scene as one
of the door prizes for the event.
Winter Open House -
Thanks to friends old and new who joined us for The
Country Studio's Annual Winter Open House on January 24! Fellow art fans
mixed and mingled, enjoyed light refreshments and reviewed Sandra's
latest work for her upcoming classes.
Sandra MacDonald lives
in Rhines Creek, just outside Shubenacadie in Nova Scotia,
Canada. Her fine art background began with college courses,
but her style developed through years of personal study, research
and teaching.
Sandra teaches at her
home studio "The Country Studio" and also travel
teaches. She has taught at major painting conventions in the US and
Canada and has published many painting pattern packets. "I've definitely
been spending more time over the past few years developing my fine
art skills", says Sandra, "but I continue to design and
produce new packets because people keep asking for them. Almost
anyone can paint them and it's a pleasure for me to see my
designs being painted and enjoyed." Currently she maintains a
regular schedule of classes in Nova Scotia and New
Brunswick.
She is an "Ann
Kingslan Accredited" oil and genesis teacher, but also
designs and teaches in acrylic medium. Sandra also works for
the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in their "Art
Smarts" program which brings art and music into schools across
the province. She has also found time to raise a family and
even plays piano regularly with famed Nova Scotia musician Chalmers Doane.
Her own favourite
subjects to paint are landscape and animal, but she also teaches
portrait, still and florals. As well, she enjoys working with
acrylic and oil mediums. While raising her three boys, Sandra
never lost her desire to paint full time. The overwhelming
response to her work has encouraged Sandra to paint and teach on a
full time basis and she has never looked back. Sandra
encourages her students to develop their own style of painting by
teaching techniques and letting them find the creative side
that
lies within.
For information
regarding upcoming classes, booking, travel teaching or conventions,
please feel free to call or email Sandra MacDonald at your
convenience.
Sandra has created a cozy atmosphere in a fully equipped artist's
studio far removed from noisy city life. Nestled in the
evergreen forests of central Nova Scotia, Canada, her home studio is
well lit with natural light and provides a peaceful environment to foster
creativity in all ages. Having her own home studio allows her
to teach year-round in addition to her travel
teaching.
"Teaching is really my first love", says Sandra "and
because I teach all ages and all skill levels, it's always exciting. Instructing has just as many rewards for the teacher as
for the student!"
Visitors to
The
Place Near and Far Gallery & Workshop in Kennetcook between June
25th and June 29th were treated to a sampling of work by Sandra's
many students, both children and adults. This is the second

For
years Sandra has successfully marketed
her attractive designs as Pattern Packets, a compact kit that
almost anyone can reproduce and enjoy her selection of landscape, still
life, seasonal designs and birds & animals. The decorative
painting packet
designs are colourful and lively, and will add a touch of country
charm to any home. Sandra markets her packets both from the
Country Studio and at shows, and finds response continues to be
excellent. "It's actually pretty easy to project what I should
design," notes Sandra. "The customers/students provide
perfect feedback on what they are looking for by what they buy, so
I've been able to adjust and update the collection over time to find
the proven performers." The Country Studio even offers a
packet Web special a FREE pattern for internet visitors only! (See the easel
below.)
Each
painting packet contains all you need to reproduce and enjoy our Country
